AFAF Summer Music Courses in Europe 2009

Deutsches Nationaltheater in Weimar, GermanyThe AFAF Summer Music Courses in Europe 2009 offers students an exciting opportunity to spend ten delightful days in Europe, under the tutelage of a distinguished international faculty comprised of experienced teachers and renowned chamber musicians and soloists.

A unique Educational Experience

This year's AFAF Summer Music Courses in Europe will take place between August 4 and August 14, 2009. The first portion of the program will take place in Weimar - one of Europe’s great cultural cities, and a home of great composers and musicians, like Bach and Liszt, throughout the centuries. Weimar’s famous Liszt School of Music will be playing host to our summer program in ‘09, and participants will be able to make full use of the school’s music center, as well as sports and recreational facilities. Over the course of the first week, our faculty will provide participants with daily coachings, private lessons, instruction in music theory and history, as well as a chance to participate in chamber music ensembles, masterclasses and recitals. In addition to courses offered by this program, participants will also have the opportunity to enjoy the rich history of our host town, Weimar, which was home to Franz Liszt for so many years. With Weimar as our home base, we’ll be able to explore surrounding cities and learn more about the composers that called these cities home, including Halle (Handel), Zwickau (Schumann) and Leipzig (Mendelssohn).

A Chance to Explore Europe's Musical Heritage

The Weimar City HallThe second part of our summer program will begin on August 11, 2009, when we will be saying goodbye to Weimar, and traveling to Nuremberg, Munich and Salzburg, where we will be able to explore the rich musical history of Germany, before making our way to our final destination - Vienna, Europe’s music capital. Upon the conclusion of the program, participants will be awarded an International Diploma attesting to their successful completion of the AFAF Summer Music Courses in Europe.
